Picking Up Old (good) Habits
So I’ve been slacking in the writing department lately. And lacking the creative thinking, or just the creative bug. So I’m going to write about another new habit that I’m picking up, or a habit that I’m picking back up.
In previous years, I have been one to work out on a regular basis. I would jog, run, walk, do Pilates videos, yoga videos, etc. a couple days a week. I am a former dancer and former soccer player, so I am use to being active. Although I must admit, dancing was my favorite. And since Zumba is so similar, that is my preference to any type of exercise. It helps me relieve stress and just makes me feel good!
About 2 years ago, I was in a routine and doing Zumba about 4 days a week. I have Zumba for the Wii, so rather than go to a class, I work out in the comfort of my own home. YAY! Then I got pregnant, and while I had good intentions to continue to exercise, even if it was just a walk, I slowed down a ton. And eventually, didn’t really work out at all. Since having my son, I tried to get back into a workout routine but haven’t been able to keep something up. But now I am hoping that I can do it.
I started off with some yoga and my how I could already tell a difference in the way I felt! I have been doing short videos on some youtube channels, so no more than 30 minutes. I’ve subscribed to a few different channels but haven’t found my favorite yet. I’ve found that I tend to sleep a bit better on the days I exercise. It feels good to be working out. I am a morning person, however I cannot get up earlier than I already am to work out. Therefore, I have made a decision that as soon as I get out of work is my time to exercise. I come home, get into the workout gear and choose a video. One day, may be yoga, another Pilates, or Zumba, etc. But I do make sure that I do not over do it. I work out Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. That way, weekends I can rest (or go on a walk/hike with the family) and Wednesday is a rest day too.
Last week, I did 4 days of yoga. This week, I went for a short walk on Monday and today I did a Barre workout. Barre might be my new favorite next to Zumba. It reminds me of a ballet class. It was a tough video (even for a beginner – maybe because I haven’t done those types of moves in a while), but I enjoyed it.
I must admit, there is nothing like a good class at a gym or studio (yoga, Pilates, Zumba, whatever it may be), but getting in that exercise at home, is also a good thing – especially if you can keep it up! And I’m looking at exercise as a way of making me feel healthy. I do not desire to lose weight, as I am already where I feel I should be. Exercise, for me, is just about being healthy, physically and mentally.
So let’s see if I can keep up the good work and continue with Yoga or another form of exercise. Wish me luck! And feel free to send me some motivation!
