A Mess with Memories

So who has time to clean up their entire house every week? Seriously,  if you do (with little ones) would you be able to tell me your secret?

As a busy, working full-time mom, I find it hard to keep up with cleaning around the house. Now, I am not saying that it can’t be done, because I know it can. I’m saying…who wants to spend the time doing that? And who really cares?!  I try nightly to do certain things to help keep the house clean, but it doesn’t always work. Especially when I am very tired myself. I come home from work, get the kids something to eat, get the kids to bed, then, maybe, get something to eat for my husband and I. After that, I wash some dishes, because there are some that we use daily. After the dishes, I may relax for a bit on the couch or just go straight to bed. It all depends on how tired I am.

The kids playroom is constantly a mess. I mean, if they are just going to play and keep messing it up, why clean it up, right? I mean sure, I’ve cleaned it up, or the kids have, for special occasions. But you can find it a mess on any given day. Some days messier than others. And we’re working on having our 4 year old clean up after he’s playing with something. But hey – it doesn’t always pan out the way you want it to.

This is a photo of the kids playroom at some point today.  My 4 year old loves to play in that empty diaper box.

Playroom This is a photo of the playroom at the end of the day. It could be a lot worse, but it’s been played in – a lot.

Our dining table turns into a dumping ground during the week. We put the infant car seat, mail, lunch boxes – all on the dining table. And on the dining room bench and chairs, purses, bags, kids bags get collected. And pretty much every day that’s what happens.

Our kitchen island collects things too. Whether it be mail, receipts, dog collar, empty lunch boxes, water bottles, and so much more!

Honestly, yes, my cleaning OCD kicks in all the time and is like “this stuff needs to be put away!!!”. But then I take a second. I look around. And I think – why is it so bad that there is so much stuff everywhere? Why does it need to be put away?  The mess in my home are memories. Our kids are playing and having fun.  There’s beauty in the mess right? Love. Laughter. Our kids are only little once. And our house will be clean(er) another day, right?

So, if you come over my house, it may look clean. It may be a mess. Please don’t judge. I won’t judge you if I come to your house.
